2014 National pool tournament launched ahead of Friday’s kickoff

pool guysThe expanded 2014 edition of the national pool tournament gets underway on Friday at the Vienna City in Accra following the launch at the same venue on Tuesday.

All is set and beginning this Friday August 1st, the first of 64 qualifying rounds in the 2014 National Pool tournament kicks off at the Vienna City located inside the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra to an expected large participating numbers.

“We began this with 3 regions in 2009 and last year we were fortunate to get an international brand like Hunter’s to partner us and we went national covering all 10 regions. We are proud of ourselves, the media and our sponsors, we thank everyone for the support,” said Nudzor Agbanu, CEO of Afrodigital Productions, organisers of the tournament.

Open to any pool player, male or female, 18 years or above without any nationality barrier, all one needs to do to participate is to fill out a registration form after buying 2 bottles of Hunter’s, the headline sponsorspool play

Any participant can compete at any of the 64 host centres across all the regions of Ghana, it is an 8-ball pool game, under the world 8-ball federation rules.

Only one player will qualify from each host centre plus the over- all champion of last year’s tournament, Shehu Bamidele to sum up to 65 finalists who will clash in the grand finale set for the D.G. Hathiramani Hall of the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday 22nd November, 2014.

“The utmost aim is to eventually get a national pool association under the National Sports Authority with funding and sponsorship from corporate Ghana like Hunter’s are already doing. We must to professionalise the sport,” Mr. Agbanu added.

Burton Swain, Country Manager of Hunter’s drinks revealed their commitment to the sport and prayed on Ghanaians to patronize pool.

“I will like to call on all Ghanaians to support this tournament at the various venues and also urge you to participate because you can just be the winner. Thank you and good luck to all the players and everyone in the game,” Mr. Swain said.
