Five Taekwondo practitioners resident in the Greater Accra and Volta regions have earned their black belts at the Ghana Taekwondo Federation Biennial Belt Promotion Test held at the WAM Taekwondo Academy in Tema.
The five were among a group of 14 candidates who excelled in the strenuous promotion test , making it possible for them to earn different types of Dans (levels of black belt).
The black belt recipients were Messrs David Kodzo Amoah (1st Dan), Desmond Kodzo Nyarku (1st Dan), Alex Kumi (2nd Dan), Hannah Humphrey (2nd Dan) and Samuel Buckman (3rd Dan).
The test saw practitioners participating in drills, including Poomsae (assembly forms), sparring, power and skill board-breaking.
The head of the GTF Promotion Test Committee, Grand Master Sung Tai Kim, explained that it was only through the promotion test that high standards could be set for practitioners to improve their skills.
The members of the examining body were Master Joseph Brako, Master Stephen Amegashie Jnr and Master Adnan O. Lamptey.
According to the General Secretary of the GTF, Charles Amofah, the promotion test which had been decentralised for the first time,” will continue in the Western and Central regions on February 13 in Takoradi”.
He added that practitioners resident in the Ashanti, Brong Ahafo, Northern, Upper East and Upper West regions would take their turn on February 27 in Kumasi.
