FREETOWN, March 2, 2022 – Talented youngster forward of Bombali District’s outfit Wusum Stars Football Club, Abdul Bangura who scored the only goal for his side on Sunday to let them beat host Republic of Sierra Leone Arm Forces-(RSLAF) Football Club 0-1 at the Wusum Stadium in Makeni during their premier clash, says his goal is dedicated to his father, Hassan Bangura who watched him play for the first time.
“Today’s win is not only meaningful to me because I helped my team to win its first game in the ongoing second round of the 2021-2022 Sierra Leone Men’s Premier League, but I’m on top of the moon that my father who’s a commercial vehicle driver let go of his day’s hurtle to watch me play for the first time since I started playing some eight years ago. I dedicated this goal to him.
“Friends of my father and other unknown persons that have been watching Wusum Stars Football Club matches have been telling my father about my performance and before this game he told me that he will take a day off his daily hustling to support me and I promised him that I was going to make him proud and I’m really thankful to God for helping me to fulfill my promise to my father by scoring the lone goal that gave my team a very important win that has let us move four places up the League’s log from 7th place to 3rd place presently.” The 16-year-old forward said in a post match interview with Awoko Newspaper.
On that same day, Bangura has made history as the youngest player to score and successively been voted man of the match in two Premier League matches. He says he’s ambition is to continue to excel in the championship while helping his team to remain as top contenders of the National Men’s Top-Tier title this season.
So far, the Premier League returnees are currently seated on 3rd place behind 2018-2019 League Champions East End Lions Football Club(38) and current league leaders Bo Rangers Football Club(41) on the log of the ongoing 2021-2022 Sierra Leone Premier League with 33 points after twenty games played.
