Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano: Taylor ready for her ‘toughest’ fight

Irish boxing star Katie Taylor has expressed excitement heading into the biggest fight of her career against Amanda Serrano.

On April 30 at Madison Square Garden, Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will square off in what has been dubbed the biggest women’s boxing match of all-time. Taylor, the undisputed lightweight champion, will put her WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO, and The Ring titles on the line when unified featherweight queen Serrano challenges for the straps in New York City.

The event is being co-promoted by Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing and Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions with a capacity crowd being expected to fill the world’s most famous arena.

The titanic nature of this contest is clear for all to see and while we’re still over a month away from fight night, the anticipation is already pretty high.

During a recent interview with BBC, Taylor didn’t hold back when discussing just how important this bout is.

“These are the kinds of nights you absolutely dream of,” Taylor said.

“These are the kinds of fights I feel I was born for.

“It will be the toughest fight of my career, of both our careers, I think. I genuinely believe this is the biggest fight in boxing right now. It’s a real 50-50 fight and it will involve a lot of heart and a lot of courage and we will definitely be in the trenches.

“I am trying to make the most of my time in the sport.

“I don’t know how many years I’ve got left in the sport. I just want to continue to make history in the sport and continue to push back the boundaries and want to be involved in these big mega fights.”

Tale of the tape

Taylor, 35, is 20-0 as a pro with an Olympic gold medal to her name. Serrano, 33, is more experienced in the professional realm at 42-1-1.

Both women went 3-0 in 2021 but with 30 knockouts compared to Taylor’s six, you can bet Serrano will be going for the finish.

Either way, though, boxing fans are in for a treat with this once in a lifetime showcase.
