Essipong Stadium 90% completed – Sports Minister Mustafa Ussif

Minister of Youth and Sports Hon. Mustafa Yusif, has made it emphatically clear that the Essipong Stadium is 90% completed in a rehabilitation works currently ongoing at the facility.

In a question posed to the sector Minister yesterday at the Public Accounts Committee Hearing on the true state of the stadium, Mr Mustafa confidently stated that ” phase one of the renovation works of the Essipong Stadium is ninety percent (90%) completed with the contractor still found on site working.”

Even though the committee member who posed the question seemed doubtful about the Minister’s answer to his question, he made it known before the minister and the Public Accounts Committee chairman Hon. Avedzi that, he will proceed to confirm the true state of the Essipong Stadium from Hon. Joe Ghartey who is currently the Member of Parliament of the area.

In a quick reference, however, on November 17th 2021, Finance Minister Mr Ofori Atta in a presentation of government’s 2022 budget statement and economic policy, stated that the rehabilitation  works on the Essipong Stadium was 90% completed. But in a sharp twist to the announcement made by the Finance Minister, Hon. Joe Ghartey exposed the misinformed minister through a written letter.

Mr Ghartey who is the Member of Parliament for Essikado-Ketan  constituency wrote a letter dated 19th November, 2021 to the Minister of Youth and Sports-Hon Mustafa Yusif, pointing out that his checks and investigations revealed that the claims made by Finance Minister were inaccurate and not factual, and therefore urged the Sports Minister to furnish him (Hon. Joe Ghartey)  with updates  on the Essipong Stadium project.

Ghana is currently been mocked by our Nigerian friends about the poor and below standard nature of the various stadia in the country which therefore calls for an urgent attention by people in authority.
