German and Pleva crowned champions of Rainbow Nations Challenge

America’s Uwie German and Paul Pleva won the maiden edition of the Rainbow Nations Challenge tennis tournament after beating Ryan Maclean and Rough Hampshire of the United Kingdom in the men’s doubles at the Accra Tennis Club on Friday.

German and Pleva defeated Maclean and Hampshire 6-2 to emerge victors of the the tournament which is aimed at forstering closer relationships with the international diplomatic and business communities in Ghana.

The duo took home a trophy and gold medals for winning the competition with Maclean and Hampshire taking home silver medals.
In a female exhibition encounter, Sisu Tormegah triumphed 6-2 in a single set over Naa Shika McKorley.

Addressing the media after the tournament, the South African High Commissioner to Ghana, Her Excellency Grace Mason described the competition as successful and said it has helped in bringing the diplomatic corps together.

She added that the aim of the tournament was to bring diplomats together to network and help revive businesses in Ghana especially after the COVID-19 restrictions.

“This has been successful for us because we wanted to bring the diplomatic corps together in forstering closer relationships with the international diplomatic and business communities in Ghana.

“The COVID-19 really affected everyone around the world and we believe this tournament can help us network to revive businesses in the country,” Her Excellency  Mason said.

For his part, the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Herbert Krapa lauded the initiative to have diplomatic missions in the country coming together to network towards reviving businesses in Ghana.

“I am very happy about this initiative especially the diplomatic missions coming together to network on business ideas through tennis.”
