Arum expects Robeisy Ramirez to fight for vacant WBO title

Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum, who promotes two-time Olympic gold medal winner Robeisy Ramirez, confirms that the Cuban fighter is heading in the direction of fighting for the vacant WBO featherweight title.

Current champion Emanuel Navarette is officially moving up to super featherweight to face Liam Wilson for the vacant WBO 130-pound strap on February 3 in Arizona.

Ramirez is ranked at three by the WBO, with his title fight likely coming against number one ranked Isaac Dogboe, who is also promoted by Top Rank.

“I think he’s supposed to get one [title shot] real quick, right? I mean, I think he’s in line to fight for a vacant title. I think it’ll be for the WBO. I mean, it’s coming,” Arum said to Give Me Sport.

“He was on the run from the Cubans, I remember, and for some reason, we put him in there right away once we got him, you know, established in the United States, and he got beat in his first fight and I couldn’t believe it. So luckily we got him the rematch, which he won, and he’s been a house on fire ever since.

“I mean, you’re right, he’s tremendously talented, and he’s learned to fight as like a professional and not as an amateur. Not like you know a lot of these Cubans are sort of boring. He’s really exciting.”

Ramirez’s trainer, Ismael Salas, is confident his boxer would topple Dogboe.

“Dogboe is a warrior, but he has already been dropped by Jesse Magdaleno who is not a great puncher and went down with Vaquero. It has been seen that until the last bell, he does not stop fighting,” Salas told George Ebro.

“The fight against Dogboe will be the doorway to greatness for Robeisy. With everything he’s done, I can still say he’s on his way to greatness. If we surpass Dogboe’s challenge, we are already talking about a pound for pound fighter.”
