STATEMENT: HONOURING THE MEMORIES OF WILLIAM ESSU AND HANS KWOFIE
Over the last couple of days, our football fraternity has been hit with the deaths of Goalkeeper William Essu, formerly of Legon Cities and Vision FC as well as the Black Meteors and Black Satellites, and Hans Kwofie, our vastly experienced forward, who featured for Medeama SC, Ashgold and Heart of Lions and also had spells with Legon Cities FC, Bechem United and Aduana FC.
Hans Kwofie, who won the goalking award in the 2016/2017 football season, also featured for the Black Galaxies/Stars and until his untimely death, he was on the books of Nepal Super League club, Birgunj United FC.
The deaths of these two young footballers, coming swiftly on the heels of the burial of our departed young former Black Stars Physical Instructor, Roy Ricky Romeo, has heavily impacted on the Ghana Football Association and the entire football fraternity, leaving us with grieving hearts.
At times like this, we are starkly reminded of our common humanity and the need to remain together in edifying fellowship.
In keeping with these themes, therefore, the Ghana Football Association expresses its deepest condolences to the families of William Essu and Hans Kwofie as well as all friends and persons affected by their unfortunate passing.
We stand together with you all and will do our supportive best to honour the memories of our two national heroes.
At today’s FA Cup final between Nsoatreman FC and Bofoakwa Tano FC, a minute’s silence shall be held in honour of William Essu and Hans Kwofie.
May the souls of our dearly departed brothers rest in perfect peace.
