Stanley Nyantakyi makes history, stops Nettey in 3 to annex UBO Africa title

Stanley Nyantakyi AKA Ashanti Warrior re-wrote the record books on Friday night after destroying veteran, Isaac Nettey in three rounds to annex the UBO Africa featherweight title in Kumasi.

Having become national featherweight champion after winning his previous fight in Kumasi back in April to follow up claiming the LBO belt few months earlier in a 9-fight winning streak despite losing his career debut in March last year, Nyantakyi added the continental crown to his vastly burgeoning title collection with an immaculate performance against Nettey.

With the huge hometown crowd cheering him on at the SG Mall in Ayigya near the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, the fighting pride of the Ashanti people dominated his opponent in spectacular fashion, dropping the 46-fight veteran 3 times, first in round one, again in round 2 when Nyantakyi’s powerful left hook sent Nettey sprawling out of the ring, before finishing the bout when Nettey went down again in the third stanza and this time failed to rise up.

The result enabled 23 year old Nyantakyi to grab his first international title and third overall of his career in less than a year, much to the delight of his astute manager, Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Promotions.

“This is historic, for one person to win 3 titles within a year, it has never happened before. This is the first time somebody from the Ashanti Region has won three titles as a boxer, it’s unbelievable,” a very ecstatic Gordon Frimpong told newsmen at ringside minutes after his ward was decorated with his new belt.

“This is still just the beginning, we are exactly where we want to be but we are not resting. There is more hard work to be done and we will give Stanley all the support he needs to become the first boxer from the Ashanti Region to win a world title,” added Frimpong who is CEO of Osibor Promotions and is affectionately called Osibor.

John ‘The Monster’ defeated Emmanuel ‘Akufo-Addo’ Quartey to become the new UBO international super bantamweight champion

Also victorious from the Osibor Boxing Management stable on Friday night was also swift rising John ‘The Monster’ Zile who proved too strong for Emmanuel ‘Akufo-Addo’ Quartey with incessant jabs and body shots in the opening two rounds so much, the veteran failed to answer the bell for round 3 as he appeared in discomfort caused by an apparent accidental low blow in the second stanza.

By the victory, Young Zile improved his career record to 13 wins, 2 draws with no defeat in addition to claiming the UBO international super bantamweight title on offer.

Other supporting bouts on the show codenamed ‘Showdown in Kumasi’ saw former Ghana cruiserweight champ, Jacob ‘The Beast’ Dickson hand down a brutal beating to David Okai in a scheduled 8-rounder whilst highly rated Daniel Selassie Gorsh rattled Samuel Danso with a crushing round one stoppage in a super bantamweight clash.
