It’s now a heavy downpour on the African boxers as they scamper for shelter following the elimination of the eighth boxer, Mouradi Kadi of Algeria, in the Paris Olympics.
Kadi, a silver medallist in the 2022 Africa Elite Championships in Maputo and a bronze medal winner last year in Yaounde, was today beaten 4-1 by four-time French national champion Djamili-Dini Aboudou in the super-heavyweight division.
In addition to Kadi, the other seven African boxers out of the competition are Egypt’s African Games bantamweight bronze medallist Yomna Ayyad, Nigeria’s undisputed African heavyweight champion Adam Olaore, his compatriot Cynthia Ogunsemilore who is the African Games lightweight champion and Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, Morocco’s two-time Africa champion and world bronze medallist Yasmine Mouttaki, Algeria’s Africa lightweight champion Hedjila Khelif and Algeria’s two-time Africa champion Jugurthar Ait Bekka.
With eight boxers out out of the Paris Olympics, Africa now remains with 15 boxers in the competition.
The six African boxers in action tomorrow, July 30, are Morocco’s bantamweight Widad Bertal, DR Congo’s featherweight Marcelat Sakobi, Mali’s featherweight Fatoumata Camara, Zambia’s flyweight Patrick Chinyemba, Cape Verde’s flyweight David Pina and Egypt’s light-heavyweight Abdelrahman Orabi.
