Medeama SC secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Asante Kotoko in the inaugural match at the newly built TnA Stadium in Tarkwa on Friday evening, thanks to a late goal from Prosper Boakye.
The much-anticipated game, witnessed by Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku, delivered high-quality football and kept fans on the edge of their seats.
Kotoko started strong, nearly opening the scoring in the third minute through Albert Amoah, whose cross was well intercepted by Michael Enu.
Medeama thought they had taken the lead in the 16th minute when Diawisie Taylor’s rebound found the net, but the goal was disallowed for offside.
However, just four minutes later, Nana Kofi Babil capitalized on Enu’s header to give Medeama the lead.
The Mauves and Yellows had a chance to double their advantage in the 31st minute with a penalty, but Taylor’s effort was saved.
In the second half, Kotoko equalized in the 64th minute through substitute Bernard Somuah, who finished off a well-executed team move.
Medeama struggled to regain control, but in the 89th minute, substitute Prosper Boakye tapped in a free kick delivery to seal the win.
The victory delighted the home crowd and marked a successful inauguration of the TnA Stadium.
