Open letter to new NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah

My dear Yaw,

Tons of congratulations on your appointment as the new Chief Executive (Director-General) of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

Without any scintilla of doubt, this is a tremendous achievement and I am extremely thrilled to see you take on this challenging yet rewarding role.

As you embark on this taxing journey, I want to remind you to tread cautiously. The NSA has faced a plethora of scandals over the years and it is all-too essential to learn from the mistakes of the past. Some of your recent predecessors faced intense criticism for gross mismanagement and it is crucial to avoid similar pitfalls.

Your wealth of experience in sports journalism and administration will undoubtedly serve you well in this position. Your leadership as President of the Ghana Beach Soccer Association and Chairman of the Beach Soccer Committee has been impressive and I have no doubt you will bring that same level of dedication and expertise to the NSA.

New NSA Director General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah in firm handshake with Sports and Recreation Minister, Hon. Kofi Adams

Nevertheless, as you tread the complex landscape of this slippery role, remember to stay focused on your goals and maintain the highest level of integrity. Collaborate closely with Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to tackle the pressing issues facing the NSA, including crumbling infrastructure and funding shortages.

One of the biggest challenges you will face is restoring trust and confidence in the NSA. The organisation has been marred by corruption and mismanagement and it is imperative to take bold steps to address these issues.

I urge you to continue to be humble, have a good listening ear, prioritize transparency and accountability and work relentlessly to rebuild the dwindling or if you like, the battered image of the NSA.

Your appointment has been widely welcomed and I am confident you will bring fresh energy and a new perspective to the role. However beware of the bootlickers and praise-singers. They could be fatal!

Remember to stay true to yourself and your values and do not hesitate to reach out to the “experts of the game,” if you need any guidance or support.

As you strategise to hit the ground running, I want to re-echo the immense responsibility that comes with leading the NSA. You have the power to shape the future of Ghana sports, to inspire a new generation of athletes and to bring pride and joy to the nation.

You have always been a passionate advocate for the nation’s sports development and your commitment to excellence is unwavering.

John Vigah – the writer

Having served with you on the Ghana (Black Stars) 2010 World Cup Planning Committee and the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Media body, I believe you have what it takes to oversee and guide this new role to nirvana.

Once again, kudos on this remarkable feat and I am honoured to call you a friend and colleague.

I look forward to seeing the incredible impact you will carve out in the NSA and Ghana sports in its entirety.

Cheers!

Best regards,

JOHN VIGAH (VIGOURMANN)
