Kurt Okraku grateful to John Mahama and others following CAF 2nd Vice President appointment

Kurt Okraku has shared a message of appreciation following his appointment as CAF 2nd Vice President.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President received the confirmation on Saturday during a CAF Press Briefing in Accra, where CAF President Patrice Motsepe praised the Ghanaian official in his announcement.

Okraku is one of five newly appointed Vice Presidents, alongside Fouzi Lekjaa (Morocco), Pierre-Alain Mounguengui (Gabon), Ms Bestine Kazadi Ditabala (Democratic Republic of Congo), and Feizal Sidat (Mozambique).

In his appreciation post, Okraku expressed gratitude to Ghana’s President John Mahama for his “love and invaluable support throughout this journey,” as well as to Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams.

He also thanked the President and leadership of CAF for “elevating me to this position. The recognition is a testament to the trust and confidence you have in me, and I pledge to apply myself diligently to support the President and Executive Committee in promoting African football.”

In March, Okraku was elected onto the powerful CAF Executive Committee. With this latest appointment, his influence in continental football politics continues to grow. Okraku becomes the second Ghanaian, after Kwesi Nyantakyi, to reach the level of CAF Vice President. Nyantakyi served as CAF 1st Vice President between 2017 and 2018.

According to the GFA website, Okraku’s appointment will enable him to take on a direct role in shaping major policies and initiatives that will determine the future of African football.
