Team Ghana finished third in its heat to miss out on qualifying to the finals of the 2025 World Athletics Relays taking place in Guangzhou, China and the World Championships in Tokyo in September. Ghana gets another shot at qualifying to the World Championship however, on Sunday May, 11.
Ghana’s team of Fuseini Ibrahim, Barnabas Agerh, Sean Sarfo Antwi and Mustapha Bokpin finished with a time 38.49 seconds.
Unlike previous occasions where Ghana struggled with the baton change, in some cases dropping the baton and getting penalized for lane infractions, Team Ghana completed the race but missed out on picking one of the two automatic qualification spots.
Great Britain and Northern Ireland won the heat which was the first of four that took place in the rain in the Chinese city with a time of 38.18 seconds to automatically progress to the final.
Poland finished in second place with a time of 38.43 seconds which represented a season’s best for the European nation.
Elsewhere, Jamaica did not finish the race in its heat as a baton change went wrong. South Africa won Heat 2 with a time of 37.84 seconds to qualify to the final and the World Championship.
