The President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), Richard Akpokavie has lavished massive praise on the national youth boxing team, Black Rockets for winning 100% gold medals at just ended 2025 African Youth Boxing Championship in Conakry, Guinea.
Mr. Akpokavie hailed the 3-man squad for their determination, discipline and hardwork which propelled the achieve the unique milestone and has earned you this beauti raising the flag of Ghana higher.
He encouraged the Black Rockets to suspend their celebrations and focus on qualification for the 2026 Youth Youth Olympic Games scheduled for Dakar, Senegal.
“We will support you to go as far to win more medals for Ghana at the Youth Olympic Games and any international competition,” the GOC boss said.
GOC General Secretary, Mohammed Muniru took the opportunity to also congratulate Mathias Ashitey, George Dowuona and Desmond Pappoe who were led by Coach Joseph Martey and encouraged them to continue working hard.
The team were led by President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) Bernard Quartey, Vice-Presidents Dauda Fuseni and Solomon Otoo Lartey, Treasurer Mustapha Nettey, PRO Jojo Ephson and the team’s head coach, Charles Quartey.
Ashitey (51kg), Dowuona (54kg) and Pappoe presented their gold medals and trophy for overall third place finish to the GOC President.
“l’m pleading to sports authorities including the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, GOC and NSA to invest in boxing because it’s the only sports that brings honour to the country in international competitions,” GBF boss Bernard Quartey appealed.
“We thank everybody that supported us in all areas to win this prestigious gold edals at the 2025 African Youth Boxing Championship. We pledge to do even better with adequate support,” he added.
