The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has finally lifted the ban on Youth Olympics gold medalist, Martha Bissah.
This follows an unconditional apology rendered to the association on November 19, 2021, for her past misconduct.
According to a statement signed by Bawa Fuseini, the CEO of the GAA, the Executive Committee had an emergency meeting to deliberate on the fate of the athlete and explicitly indicated the association’s willingness to accept her apology.
Future support
It said the former president of the GAA, Prof. Francis Dodoo, welcomed Bissah’s decision and said he had fully accepted her apology and further implored the GAA to help her attain her life goals in the same way the association helped the other athletes.
The GAA also commended the athlete’s expression of remorse for her action. “The GAA applauds Martha Bissah for being able to take the courageous decision and decisive step of accepting responsibility for her past,” the statement noted.
It further hinted that the GAA looked forward to see Bissah competing in the upcoming domestic competitions slated for early next year, and also discuss with her ways to help advance her personal athletic goals.
Appreciation
The 24-year-old Bissah was suspended indefinitely in 2016 by the GAA for indiscipline and bringing the name of the association into disrepute with false allegations.
Bissah, Ghana’s only Youth Olympic gold medalist, accused the GAA of extortion while working on a scholarship for her to study in the US.
