Ghana’s former national lightweight champion, Sheriff ‘One Time’ Quaye and Tanzanian opponent, Emmanuel Amos both successfully made the required weight limit for their WBO Africa lightweight championship in the Ghana capital on Friday night.
Quaye (20-3, 15 KOs) tilted the scales at the exact 135 lbs limit, much heavier than the 22 year old Amos (12-1, 10 KOs) who clocked 130.4 lbs at Thursday’s weigh-in at the new Friendly Mall, opposite the Bukom Boxing Arena in Accra.
It will be an opportunity for the world title chasing Quaye to not only annex the continental crown, but also gain entry into the world rankings in pursuit of his dreams in what is the headliner of Swavy Blu Promotions collaborative bill with Bronx Boxing Promotions at the plush Royal Dede Golden Beach Resort in Korle-Gonno, Accra.
In other undercard action, Jacob laryea weighed 155lbs for the six-round super welterweight contest versus Ben Ankrah who came in at 158lbs whilst Philip Sulley Nguah (142.3lbs) vs Emmanuel Quartey (142.3lbs) were also on the spot for a super lightweight contest scheduled for six rounds.
Other fights see Felix Nunoo (138lbs) versus Felix Paa Azu Crabbe (137.3lbs) for lightweight contest billed for 6 rounds as well as budding Daniel Selassie Gorsh (123.3lbs) agaisnt Robert Nunoo (122.3lbs) in a bantamweight contest scheduled for six rounds.
Concluding the fight line up on Friday night is Gabriel Coffie who came in at 133lbs for a super lightweight 6-rounder against Emmanuel Allotey who tilted the scales at 141.1lbs and Alfred Quaye (121lbs) vs Adam Hab Deen Salamon (119.8lbs) in a bantamweight contest of six rounds.
