Black Stars arrive in Kumasi for World Cup playoffs first leg versus Nigeria

In a rare show of solidarity in sports, the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) have sent a message of goodwill wishing the national football team, Black Stars the best of luck in their upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs double header against the Super Green Eagles of Nigeria.

The Black Stars must beat the perennial rivals over two legs to make November and December’s Mundial in Qatar, beginning with Friday’s first leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi ahead of the decisive return leg in Abuja on Tuesday.

And as a ‘sister in sport’ the Ghanaian boxing governing body have thrown full weight behind the Black Stars to make Ghana proud by qualifying to the FIFA World Cup.

Abraham Kotei Neequaye, GBA President

“On behalf of the executive board members of Ghana Boxing Authority, the entire stakeholders and members of the boxing fraternity, I wish the Black Stars the very best of luck in in both legs devoid of any injuries, casualties, ill-luck or calamity,” stated a letter signed by Abraham Kotei Neequaye, President of GBA.

“The GBA remain highly optmistic in the Black Stars to defeat the Super Eagles on Friday at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium and go ahead to record a good result in the return match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja, Nigeria,” the message added.

The GBA chief also expressed “joy regarding the preparation, planning and management of the team by the new head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo and Kurt Okraku, GFA President,” and assured that the “GBA will support the Black Stars physically and spiritually for possible victories in both matches to catapult Ghana to FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.”
