Emmanuel Tagoe: A ‘prophet’ without honour

Former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) lightweight titlist, Emmanuel ‘Gameboy’ Tagoe, says he is looking forward to a strong comeback following an unimpressive performance against Ryan Garcia in Texas on April 9.

Tagoe blamed his lopsided loss against Garcia to an injury to his right hand but maintained that he still had a lot to prove in the sport.

Having been out of the ring for over a year, the 33-year-old boxer suffered an early knockdown in a one-sided fight which American Garcia won by unanimous points.

In an interview with the Graphic Sports, Tagoe said he looked forward to making amends in his subsequent bouts.

“I don’t like making excuses but I had an injury to my right hand during my training camp for the fight so that really affected me.

“The future is what I think of and how to come back stronger in subsequent fights. That is the focus now and I am keen on achieving that,” said Tagoe.

Tagoe, who switched camp to the US, is back in Ghana on vacation but says he is yet to know his next move after the defeat to Garcia.

His chances of landing a big fight again looks slim following his abysmal performance against Garcia and will know his fate when he returns to the US after his vacation.
