The Badminton Confederation of Africa (BCA), has suspended two African tournaments of the Badminton Association of Ghana (BAG) because of our inability to honour outstanding bills.
A letter signed by BCA, stated that the BCA have suspended Ghana from participating in both the All Africa School Championship and All Africa Under-15 Championships.
“Ghana is allowed to enter players and participant for any sanctioned tournament but would only be accredited when advanced payments are made to the host country. The BCA will lift the sanctions until it is satisfied that it has made all payments,” the letter stated.
This unfortunate situation has come about because of our inability to get enough funding from the Sports Ministry to take part in international tournaments and fund our high-performance plans, understandably because of the difficult financial situation government finds itself with and we are in close touch with the ministry to resolve this impasse.
In response, BAG acknowledged receipt of the letter, yesterday under a terms and conditions of a settlement plan put in place, that will settle the aggregate outstanding to the two member associations in a coordinated administrative manner, once we receive release from the Ministry and donors to settle our past due accommodation bills for tournaments that Ghana participated in.
Our sporting calendar remains intact, as we keep on delivering exceptional results. Our All-Ghana Open Badminton Championships coming off on July 9-10, 2022, has received over 186 entries from sub-juniors, juniors, seniors, and masters from across the country – bringing a much-fulfilled fun, sportsmanship, and excitement to our sporting community.
