Chicago Chess Foundation students heading to Ghana for chess exchange

Six students from Chicago Chess Foundation will visit Chokor, a small fishing community in Accra, Ghana for a week-long visit aimed at promoting cross-cultural understanding and citizen diplomacy.

During the visit, the students will teach, play chess and learn about the local culture from their Ghanaian peers. In exchange, the locals will learn about the history of the United States and play American football.

The students are part of the Ghana-Chicago Chess Exchange, a partnership that started online during the covid-19 pandemic as a way to create a cross-cultural relationship between students in Ghana and Chicago.

Since the partnership, the teens have participated in virtual meet-ups to play chess and have conversations about their lives and cultures. The trip is being sponsored by a grant from the US Embassy in Ghana.
