Kojo Choi emerged the hero by topping the podium when the MTN Invitational golf 2023 tournament teed off to a great success at the Achimota Golf Club in Accra on Friday.
Playing off handicap 10, Choi totalled 38 points in the one-day competition in the Ghanaian capital to win the flagship men’s group A by the slightest of margins and gift himself the best of starts to the weekend.
In second place was Christopher Mbii who amassed 37 points playing via handicap 1 to beat 3rd placed Kwame Boafo who played off handicap 9.
Kojo Choi and the other winners went home with glittering trophies and MTN souvenirs to boot as a total of 12 golfers received honours for their performances in various categories on the greens of the premier golf club, aside the auxiliary awards of course.
In the event, Philip Boney played off handicap 24 to win men’s group B with 40 points, two more than second placed Peter Quartey-Papafio who also played on handicap 24. Justin Butah took 3rd spot with 37 points after taking to the field on handicap 15.
The ladies division saw Floria Hurtubise emerge ladies’ group A champ with 37 points off handicap 14 after beating runner-up, Vastie Amoafo-Yeboah (handicap 15) by three points.
Ladies group B saw Charity Vogel lift the ultimate trophy with 36 points off handicap 27, whilst old campaigner, Elizabeth Essel-Koomson took the runner-up spot after totalling 34 points off handicap 23.
The seniors were not left out as Jan Vogel finished as the men’s winner with 32 points after playing via handicap 15. Helen Appah meanwhile took the ladies’ title on the back of 33 points garnered via handicap 24.
Closest to the pin prizes went to Nash Antwi for men and Jessica Tei (ladies) whilst Joseph Mensah-Larkai was the sole recipient of longest drive on hole 17.
