Paris 2024 Olympics: 11 African boxers out, 12 still in contention

Morocco’s Widad Bertal has become the 15th African boxer to kiss goodbye to the Paris Olympics boxing event.

Bertal was beaten 4-0 by North Korea’s Cholmi Pang in the bantamweight quarter-finals at a packed North Paris Arena on Thursday, August 1.

The North Koran boxer was more dominant and had the cleaner shots.

With Bertal out, the eight African boxers still left in contention for medals are Algeria’s flyweight Roumaysa Boualam, Cape Verde’s welterweight Ivanusa Moreira, Mozambique welterweight Alcinda Dos Santos, Tunisia’s featherweight Khouloud Hlimi, Morocco’s middleweight Khadija Mardi, Zambia’s flyweight Patrick Chinyemba, Cape Verde’s flyweight David Pina and Algeria’s welterweight Imane Khelif who’s through to the quarter-finals and meets Hungary’s Anna Lucia Hamori on Saturday, August 3.
