GBA settle on Abraham Kotei Neequaye as new leader

Ghanaian boxing stakeholders went to the polls on Thursday and made the decision for a new leader to lead the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and it was no other person than the name of Abraham Kotei Neequaye who came out victorious with 54 votes cast over Dr. Henry Manly-Spain who grabbed 46 in the contest between just the two for who becomes President for the next four years.

The Congress which belled off inside the Mudor Conference Hall of the Bukom Boxing Arena, was a beautiful moment as old renowned boxers like Azumah Nelson, Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey, Nana Yaw Konadu, Joshua Clottey and Emmanuel Tagoe were all in attendance to cast their votes for a new leader that will lead the Ghana boxing.

Kwame Ampofi Jr who is the Acting Deputy Director General, Technical division of the National Sports Authority (NSA) said in a speech that boxing has often lifted the image of Ghana very high when internationally and as a result, it remains the desire of the Director General of the NSA, Professor Peter Twumasi that the new set of leadership will sustain the discipline that has been established.

“We hope the GBA will have leaders that will partner the NSA and other stakeholders, we will always be available to support whoever will be accepted as the new leader,” Mr. Amponfi Jr said.

The newly elected executive members were sworn in along with the President elect. Mr. Rabbon Dodoo who will take over as the 1vice President, Referee/Judge Roger Barnor is the 2vice President, Mr Lord Isaac Acquaye as Treasurer and other 4 executive members, Lawrence Carl Lokko, Alhaji Tofiq, Shadrach Acquaye and Michael Neequaye.

Losing candidate, Dr. Henry Manly-Spain in a speech, congratulated Abraham Neequaye before revealing that he will now step back for a while and decide really and what to do next.

Meanwhile, Abraham Kotei Neequaye who is now the President of the GBA after winning the elections, and at 45, the youngest to ever occupy the post, sent a goodwill message to Lawyer Peter Zwennes who he takes over from.

“He is a father to all and I’m grateful to have work with him before as a 2nd Vice-President and I promise now that I have taken over as the new President to continue the good works he left behind,” Mr. Neequaye affirmed.
