Panthers Basketball Club has grabbed a 50-41 win over Kaneshie Swanlakers in the 2021 Accra Basketball League (ABL) Men’s Division II regular season.
The game was played out earlier today at the Prisons Court in Cantonments in Accra as one of two outstanding league games. The ABL is presently on a break after hitting the midway point in the season.
Match Report
Emmanuel Otoo got Panthers first points with a tough contested layup. Kaneshie’s Abban drained a three pointer for Kaneshie and Bright Assin got a pair of baskets. Swanlakers had a difficult time stopping Panthers from scoring inside the paint. Joseph Awuletey used his size to score in the post as the first quarter ended all tied at 12.
Assin assisted James Okoye to give Swanlakers an early lead in the second quarter. Okoye added a three pointer to put Swanlakers up 17-14 with 3:36 minutes played. Panthers Daniel Dansoh drained one of two free throws.
Okoye turned provider by assisting Davy Webber with a beautiful pass as Swanlakers led 21-15 with four minutes remaining in the quarter. David Maja completed a three point play to reduce Panthers deficit to three points (18-21).
Kaneshie turned the ball over on consecutive possessions and got punished in the closing moments of the first half. Panthers led 26-21 at half time.
Both teams traded baskets early in the third quarter with Smith draining a three pointer for Kaneshie. Dansoh scored a layup on a drive but Michael Smith got back with another deep shot to as Kaneshie trailed 27-30 with 5:20 minutes remaining.
Maja and Kwame Attafuah scored for Panthers to stretch its lead. Webber scored but got another layup attempt swatted away by Awuletey. Otoo stepped off the bench to drain a three pointer; Kwame Attafuah’s layup ended the quarter; Panthers led 40- 31
Rodrigue Williams scored an easy layup off a beautiful assist. Kofi Attafuah scored a fastbreak layup to give Panthers a 48-34 lead with 4: 28 left in the contest. With both teams in foul trouble, points were scored from the free throw line.
Swanlakers Power Forward Selorm Kuwornu played against his former side.
