The Minister for Youth and Sports Dr. Mustapha Ahmed insist President John Dramani Mahama will fulfill his promise to the people of Bukom.
The president promised the people of Bukom in a political campaign in October 2014 a modern boxing arena.
But after almost two years, his words seem to be far from yielding edible fruits.
Earlier this week, president of the Boxing Federation Peter Zweenes reminded the president of his pledge he made to the people of Bukom and boxing fans across the country and called on him to honour his promise.
“We are all aware of the promises that were made and it was our hope and expectations that at least the boxing arena concept will materialize but we haven’t seen that yet. We can’t rule it out, but I believe that it all depends on on the commitment and will power to let that become a reality.” Peter Zweenes said.
And Dr. Mustapha has responded that the words were not spoken in a vacuum. He said the project is on course.
“I think very soon we will move from the drawing board to the field. The designs and everything are almost done and shortly, within the next year we will go to the field and cut the sod for work to begin,” the Sports Minister told Joy FM.
“I just want to tell the people that we are on course for the project,” He added.
Many people are pessimistic the words are political talks, but Mr. Mustapha insists work will begin soon.
“Well, I am telling you what I know. Very soon we will cut sod to begin the project so I don’t know what is meant by a political talk.
“Perhaps it is politics to make the announcement, it is also politics to initiate the project, it is politics to complete the project and it is politics to even commission and put it to use,” He explained.
