Defending champs Police hammer University of Ghana in Accra Basketball League opener

Defending Accra Basketball League (ABL) Women’s Division Champions Ghana Police Service delivered a strong statement about their intentions to retain the title.

The team hammered University of Ghana (UG) 70-29 to commence the 2021 season in a game played earlier today at the Prisons Court in Cantonments, Accra.

Police held a sizable advantage half way through the final quarter and UG made a couple of baskets but the 2019 League Champs responded with a flurry of points in the paint and on fast breaks.

In the aftermath of the huge win, Police Assistant Head Coach Sasu was adamant his team is ready to compete this season and retain its title.

Police thereby takes a commanding lead in the Group A standings that also has Ghana AirForce, Ghana Navy and Ghana Fire Service competing. All three are yet to make their 2021 debuts.

Arch rival of Police, Braves of Customs, are drawn in Group B in a changed format for the present campaign. The 2020 ABL season was wiped out due to COVID.
