Vice-President Bawumia adopts two award categories in 46th MTN SWAG Awards

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has adopted two award categories in the upcoming Sports Writers’ Association of Ghana (SWAG) Awards scheduled to take place at the Accra International Conference Center (AICC) on Friday, December 17.

This was announced by Special Aide to the Vice President, Mr. Tamimu Issah, when he presented the Vice President’s support of GH¢50,000 to SWAG towards the successful hosting of the event.

He mentioned that Dr. Bawumia would reward winners of two special categories; Female Footballer of the Year and the novel Sports Journalist of the Year with GH¢10,000 each.

Explaining the rationale behind the Vice President’s support for the two categories, Tamimu said Dr. Bawumia has a special interest in female football development, hence the support for the female footballer of the year to encourage young girls who have chosen the path of football and sports.

For the novel Sports Journalist of the Year, the Vice President’s aide explained that the GH¢10,000 donation is to support the professional development of the overall winner.

The 46th SWAG Awards Night would honor over 30 sportsmen and women as well as individuals who excelled in their area of sporting endeavors and those who contributed in diverse ways in the sports industry in the year under review.

The event is being supported by MTN Ghana, GOIL, Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), National Lottery Authority (NLA) Betboro Ghana, Stanbic Bank and ASKOF Productions.

Dr. Bawumia is scheduled to grace the 2021 SWAG Awards as the Distinguished Guest of Honour.
