After an excellent start to his Real Tamale United career, midfielder David Abagna says the Ghana Premier League has been good preparation for the step-up to international football.
The former Wa All Stars player says the confidence he gained from knowing Coach Shaibu Ibrahim Tanko was a factor in producing the performances that earned him a first Black Stars call-up.
Abagna, who joined RTU this campaign, has been a regular for coach Tanko’s team this season having captained the team from week 3. Eight goals in 9 games have helped propel him into Milovan Rajivac’s squad for the up-coming AFCON in Cameroon next year.
“It’s something I’m going to remember for a very, very long time,” David Abagna told the best Sports Show in the North, Gbangu Hot Sports.
“It gives you confidence during the game to know the national team coach is monitoring your performances. But that is my responsibility, I just focused on the game and how I could influence the game.”
“When I got the message I had to read it a couple of times to take the words in. But I just try to focus on football. We’ve got a training tour coming up and that’s the most important thing for me at the moment, to go there and do what the coach want me to do.
But David Abagna feels prepared for the step-up to the international ranks, despite not having international experience.
