A total of 192 athletes will compete in the 2022 preliminary National Cross-Country event in Akim Oda on Saturday, February 26.
The National Cross Country is a product of the National Sports Authority and its main objective is to select a standing national team.
Each of the 16 regions will present 12 athletes – six female and six male – at the event which will start at 6 AM.
This year’s event is to select and prepare a national team for the 13th African Games in August 2023.
Meanwhile, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, the Minister of Youth and Sports, together with Prof. Peter Twumasi – the Director-General of the National Sports Authority, and members of the Accra 2023 Local Organising Committee will be present at the event.
According to Charles Osei Asibey, the 2nd Vice President of the Ghana Athletics Association (GAA), Saturday’s event is one of a series of qualification installments ahead of the 13th African Games.
“This is one of the series of cross-country events to get the best of our fastest athletes to participate in the upcoming Games. The GAA will select the first four, at the end of the series, to participate in the Game,” he told Accra2023ag.com.
The final athletes for the Games will be selected after next year’s national cross-country.
