Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk makes ‘substantial financial donation’ to help fund Dutch Deaflympics national team’s dreams

Virgil van Dijk has made a ‘substantial donation’ to the Dutch Deaf national team, who are hoping to take part in the Deaflympics in May.

The 30-year-old supported the team financially and even donated the shirt he wore during Liverpool’s triumph over Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday evening.

Van Dijk’s financial contribution as reportedly helped the Dutch Deaf national team raise half of the required funds to attend the tournament in Brazil.

The 30-year-old made a large financial donation to help the team fund their dreams of attending the tournament in two months time.

The Liverpool defender also signed the shirt he wore against Chelsea on Sunday evening and donated it to the Dutch team to help raise the required funds.

Van Dijk said he was impressed with the Dutch team’s progression over the last year
Fans have been asked to contact shirtactie@nederlandsdovenelftal.nl to submit their bids for the Liverpool player’s shirt.

However, the deaf national team have not yet declared when the winner will be announced.

According to reports, Van Dijk’s contribution has already seen the team raise ‘half of the amount’ required to attend the event in May.

When asked about why he decided to help, Van Dijk told the De Telegraaf: ‘I have discussed this with my family and we would like to help.

‘That’s why we support these guys, who have done a great job moving from 21st to 7th place in the world ranking. I admire the way these guys practice their sport.’
