Ghana vs Nigeria: Top Moroccan referee Redouane Jiyed takes charge of first-leg of 2022 World Cup playoff

Moroccan referee Redouane Jiyed has been entrusted to handle the first leg of the 2022 World Cup play-off tie involving Ghana and Nigeria later this month.

The highly respected Moroccan match official will travel to Cape Coast for the match between the arch rivals to determine which side would qualify for the tournament to be played in Qatar.

The Black Stars will take on Super Eagles at the Cape Coast stadium on Friday, March 25, 2022 before they head to Abuja four days later for the return encounter.

Jiyed was in charge when Ghana hosted and beat Ethiopia 1-0 in the World Cup qualifications at the same venue in September last year.

The 42-year-old match official took charge of the 3rd place play-off game Burkina Faso and Cameroon at the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde at the 2021 AFCON.

The top Moroccan referee also officiated AFCON games – Equatorial Guinea vs. Cote d’Ivoire in the group stages and Burkina Faso vs. Gabon in the round of 16.

Jiyed recently took charge of the CAF Champions League group stage match which saw Mamelodi Sundowns beat Al Ahly SC at the Cairo International Stadium.
