Probellum new signing Jazza Dickens eyes Wood vs Conlan title shot

Jazza Dickens has put the world featherweight champions on alert after plotting his return to title contention with Probellum.

The 30-year-old from Liverpool is a two-time world title challenger and could target a shot at old rival Leigh Wood, the WBA regular champion, this year in his latest bid for glory.

Dickens is backing Wood, whom he defeated in 2020, to keep hold of his belt after this weekend’s clash with Michael Conlan in Nottingham and he will then look to strengthen his own claims for a title tilt, with victory on Probellum’s show in Liverpool on April 22.

“It will be a close fight but I’m picking Leigh Wood to defend his world title, because of the experience he has over Conlan,” Jazza Dickens said.

Dickens (30-4, 11KO) returns to action in April for the first time since being retired at the end of the 11th round of last summer’s bloody world title fight with Kid Galahad.

The former British super bantamweight champion says with Probellum’s backing he will be back in world contention by the end of the year, with Wood and the other champions firmly in his sights.

“This is an amazing opportunity for my career and where I am right now,” Dickens added.

“Probellum, with the people involved, will become the biggest promotional company in the world and I am blessed to be part of it.

“By the end of the year I will be fighting for a world title, or if not, I will be mandatory for the world title.

Probellum will make sure that I will be in position to fight for the world title again when it suits me, this is my journey, it will be on my terms because Probellum are the A side.”

“The featherweight division is red-hot right now and we’ll be keeping an eye on the outcome of the Wood versus Conlan fight this weekend,” said Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum.

“Jazza has fought for the world title on two occasions but he is a better fighter for having experienced those set-backs, and he will make no mistake when his third chance comes along.

“This is a big year for Jazza’s career and it all starts with a huge fight in Liverpool next month.”

Dickens’ hometown return on April 22 will be shown exclusively live on Eurosport’s linear channels, discovery+ and Eurosport App to millions of homes across 62 markets and territories in Europe and the Indian sub-continent.

Probellum has signed a multi-fight broadcast deal with Discovery Sports which starts with Probellum Evolution, which sees back-to-back shows in Dubai on March 18 and 19, before moving onto Newcastle, Liverpool and London.
