Ghana legend Asamoah Gyan gave former Senegal forward El Hadji Diouf a befitting welcome following his arrival in the country ahead of the former Black Stars captain’s book launch.
Asamoah Gyan invited the former Liverpool star to the launch of his maiden memoir in Accra, on Saturday, April 30.
El Hadji Diouf was met by Ghanaian tradition dance and singing as he calmly walked to a rapturous reception.
“In 50 years’ time, we probably will not be here to tell our own stories so it will be very important to have this written down so the younger generation can know about us,” said El Hadji Diouf.
Other top dignitaries expected to arrive in Ghana for the book launch are CAF president Patrice Motsepe and former Ballon D’or winner George Weah.
Asamoah Gyan is revered in Ghana and remains the country’s all time leading scorer with 51 goals from 109 international appearances.
The former Sunderland striker is Africa’s all-time top scorer at the FIFA World Cup, with six goals from three tournaments.
