Jalen Hill, former UCLA player, dies at 22 after going missing in Costa Rica

Jalen Hill has passed away at the age of 22. The basketball player, who played for UCLA, lost his life after having been missing for a number of days in Costa Rica.

Hill’s family confirmed his death, but have not revealed any further details.

“Our heats are shattered and completely broken to inform family and friends that our beloved son, Jalen, has passed away,” Hill‘s father wrote on Instagram.

“Jalen disappeared while in Costa Rica.”

Jalen Hill battled depression

Jalen Hillhad been battling against both anxiety and depression for a number of years. Those issues worsened after he was suspended by the NCAA in his first season following an arrest in China for shoplifting.

“Focus on the good stuff,” Hillsaid.

“Because when you’re in a situation when you’re anxious or going through some mental health issues, you tend to just focus on that and that’s pretty much the only thing you’ll feel because it’s the only thing your mind is focused on.”

Hill played at UCLA from 2017 until 2021. His last game there came on January 30, 2021.

Hill was a 2.07m centre and stood out for his athleticism. He averaged nine points and 6.9 rebounds per game in his best season, which was 2018/19.
