The decision to allow former technical director of the Black Stars, Chris Houghton to assume full control of the national team as head coach has been hailed by former goalkeeper, Fatau Dauda.
The Ghana Football Association announced in a statement at the beginning of this week, their decision to appoint the former Newcastle, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton manager to take charge of the team which is headed for a double AFCON 2023 qualifier against Angola in March.
While the public waits anxiously for further disclosure on the terms of his contract that will guide him through his tenure as coach of the Black Stars, Fatau Dauda believes the decision to even allow Houghton to take full responsibility pending his contract is proper.
“He has been with the team before and after the World Cup and its very appropriate for us to hand him the job to ensure some level of continuity. He is a top professional and is already known in the team, we only pray for the best for him,” Dauda said in an interview on Accra based Asempa FM.
Chris Houghton will be assisted by fellow English compatriot, George Boateng and former Kotoko head coach, Mas-Ud Didi Dramani as they begin another attempt to win the Africa Cup of Nations trophy which has eluded Ghana since 1982.
Chris Houghton, 64, has in the past, guided Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion to gain qualification from the Championship to the English Premier League in England.
