Board Chairman of the National Sports Authority, Mr. Seth Panwum has called for more education of sports journalists so that they would be updated with new trends and developments.
Speaking as the Chairman of a one day seminar organised by the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) and the Boxing Writers Association of Ghana (BWAG), he lauded the program which took place at the Bukom Boxing Arena with over 40 participants attending.
He commended the facilitator, Hon. Mohammed Amin Lamptey who is the Communications Director of the GBA, and appealed to other sports federations to equip the media with more knowledge.
Some of the topics discussed were journalism, sports reporting, boxing reporting and others.
He encouraged sports journalists to specialise and have time to research and investigate before coming out with news stories.
Abdul Majeed Bawa, Deputy Director General of the NSA who was also present commended the journalists who took part in the seminar and also hailed the lecturer for the initiative of gathering media practitioners and teaching them about boxing.
According to him the media should not label some disciplines as lesser known but try to promote all sports equally because people have their choices, and not everyone can love or play football.
Abraham Kotei Neequaye, President of the GBA said boxing is the number one sport in Ghana because they have produced 10 world champions and more rising stars are in the gyms training to become title holders.
He revealed that the exciting Ghana Professional Boxing League Season 2 will begin on 18th March.
Nana Odiasempa Abena Ayebea Okani I Asumkahemaa of Adukrom Akuapim who was special guest at the program urged the media to promote boxing to motivate and encourage boxers because boxing is a tough game but very interesting to watch.
She disclosed her admiration for World Boxing Organization title aspirant, Isaac Dogboe and wished him success in his upcoming bout on April 1.
William Ezah, Sports Editor of the Ghana News Agency who is a former General Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana SWAG and AIPS Africa commended the participants for coming to learn.
Ataa Eddie Pappoe, an international boxing referee / judge was also present to render his support as well as Yours Truly, President of BWAG.
All the participants said the seminar was good and hope such events would be frequent.
There was a special presentation of tee-shirts from Boxinghana.com to participants who reported to the program on time.
