Sadio Mané has received his “Jules François Bocandé” Award which rewards the best Senegalese Football Player of the Year, from ANPS president Abdoulaye Thiam in Munich on Thursday, March 9, 2023.
The president of the ANPS travelled to Germany with a small delegation to honour the Senegalese striker of Bayern who got back to the pitch on February 26, 2023 after several months of absence due to a knee injury.
Mané was named best Senegalese footballer of the 2022 season by Senegalese sports journalists following a vote. The Bayern striker received 250 votes ahead of Chelsea’s goalkeeper Edouard Mendy (99 votes) and defender Kalidou Koulibaly (37 votes).
This is the 7th time Sadio Mané is winning the award since the ANPS instituted it (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2022). The winners received their awards at the gala held on the evening of February 25, 2023. Mané, who was recovering from an injury, was unable to attend the ceremony, which is why a delegation went to him with his award.
Very touched by this gesture, Sadio Mané thanked the ANPS, all his teammates in the national team and club, without whom, he said, “this award would not be possible”.
