“I made history” – Faith Kipyegon after winning the 5000m in Budapest

Three world records in less than 50 days. This is how Faith Kipyegon arrived for the World Athletics Championships in Budapest.

On the fourth day she already won the 1500m, however, to be the first woman to win gold in the 1500m and 5000m at the World Championships she had to showcase her best performance on Saturday night as well.

HISTORY MAKER

No doubt, it wasn’t an easy ride for the world record-holder, as Olympic champion Sifan Hassan and the defending champion Gudaf Tsegay were there to hold her back from making history. But with an amazing finish she defeated her rivals in the 5000m as well.

PUSHING EACH OTHER

“This season has been amazing for me. This has been the best year of my life. I can say I made history today. The crowd pushed us to the finish line,” says Kipyegon at the press conference. And as she turns to her side, where silver medallist Sifan Hassan sits, she continues – “I really respect you Sifan, so much. Let’s keep pushing each other to the limit. Break barriers and motivate young women.”

FAITH IS THE GREATEST

This is what makes this moment even more special. Even after writing history, her priority is to praise her biggest opponent. Because they are only opponents on the field. And friends besides that. Nothing shows it better than Hassan’s answer: “As much as I love to win, I love these females around me. Faith is the greatest athlete I have ever seen.”

And as they are never stopping to push each other to the limits, we can be sure, many more records will be broken.
