In a battle for the WBA, IBO, WBC, WBO welterweight titles, Sandy Ryan (6-1-1, 2 KOs) thought she had won the fight, but the contest with Jessica McCaskill (12-3-1, 5 KOs) ended with a questionable ten round split draw. (photos by Ed Mulholland)
The scores were 97-93 for McCaskill, 96-94 for Ryan, and 95-95 for the draw.
McCaskill was coming off a ten round decision loss to undisputed junior welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron.
After a feeling out round in the first, Ryan was boxing and landing very well in the second. In the third, McCaskill came back with hard punches that were connecting to the head and body. Ryan connected with a very sold combinations of punches, but her nose began to bleed from a counter.
Cameron back in the fourth, countering well when McCaskill would charge in with punches. More of the same in the fifth, with Ryan outboxing McCaskill and make her miss. There was some give and take in the sixth, with Ryan having the edge. During the seventh, there were some heavy exchanges, with McCaskill appearing to get hurt to the body more than once. After a close eight, they were trading away at close range for most of the ninth. Ryan seemed to close strong in the tenth with the landed punches.
