Shevchenko elected President of Ukraine FA

Andriy Shevchenko has been elected as the president of the Ukrainian Association of Football (UAF) for a four-year term.

The ex-captain and head coach of the Ukrainian national team pledged to give his all to push football forward in the country, even in the face of current the challenges. “We’re living in the toughest period in Ukraine’s history, where the fate of not just football, but the entire nation hangs in the balance. Our primary goal is figuring out how football cannot just survive but develop,” he said.

A Dynamo Kyiv academy product and a standout star in Valeriy Lobanovskyi’s great side in the late 1990s, Shevchenko moved to AC Milan in 1999, securing the UEFA Champions League in 2003 and claiming the Ballon d’Or the following year. Following stints at Chelsea, with a return to Milan on loan, he concluded his playing career with Dynamo in 2012.

Having scored 48 goals for the Ukrainian national team, Shevchenko still holds the national record. In 2016, he assumed the role of its head coach, steering the Synio-Zhovti to the EURO 2020 quarter-final. Later, he briefly ventured into Serie A with Genoa, and from 2022, redirected his focus towards a humanitarian mission, aiding those affected by the war in his homeland.
