Countdown to Accra 2023 Africa Games: Samuel Takyi back in Ghana national team

Team Ghana: 5 Black Bombers and 2 Hitters are representing Ghana in Italy

Ghana’s Olympic Games bronze medallist Samuel Takyi (pictured) is back in the national team, and is among the seven boxers who have left for Italy to participate in the 1st World Olympic Qualifiers starting on Sunday, March 3.

After the qualifiers, Takyi and comrades will team up with other nine boxers for the Africa Games.

The nine include Commonwealth Games featherweight silver medallist, Joseph Commey who has moved to lightweight and World Championships quarter-finalist, bantamweight Amadu Mohammed.

They’re also using the Italy event as a build-up for the Africa Games in Accra.

Ghana’s team for the 1st World Olympic Qualifying tournament in Busto Arsizio, Italy  from March 3-11:

Men:
1. THEOPHILUS KPAKPO ALLOTEY(Flyweight -51Kg)

2. SAMUEL TAKYI(Light Welterweight -63.5Kg)

3. ALFRED KOTEY(Light Middleweight -71Kg)

4. JONATHAN TETEH(Light Heavyweight – 80Kg)

5. MARK KODJOVI AHONDJO(Heavyweight -92Kg)

Women:
6. JANET ACQUAH(Flyweight – 50Kg)

7. ANATU MOHAMMED(Lightweight – 60Kg)
