Sponsors of the Ghana FA Cup, MTN have called on the organisers of the competition to consider including more female referees in the officiating of matches henceforth.
The competition enters the last 8 next week Saturday, March 30 when Nsoatreman host Karela in an all top flight affair before ties pitting Legon Cities versus Bechem and Bofoakwa at home to second tier side, Skyy FC the following day.
The final tie between Dreams FC and Division One League side, Soccer Intellectuals is postponed to a later date due to the defending champions’ engagement in the ongoing CAF Confederation Cup.
Speaking at what was indeed the final draw for the competition this season at MTN House in Accra on Tuesday, Noel Kojo-Ganson, Chief Marketing Officer, MTN Ghana reiterated the telecommunications giants’ commitment to the competition through 2026 with a sponsorship amount for this season at one million, five hundred thousand Ghana Cedis (GH¢1,500,000).
Further he had a special request for the FA Cup organisers to assimilate gender balance in the appointment of referees to officiate the remaining fixtures in this season’s tournament in respect of the great role females play in our everyday lives.
“As we move unto the next stage of this year’s competition, we would like to propose to the FA to consider gender inclusivity in its officiation,” Mr. Kojo-Ganson began.
“After celebrating International Women’s Day so beautifully, we propose that the FA considers using an all-female officiating team, to ensure that our ladies are not left out of the excitement,” the MTN Chief Marketing Officer urged.
