Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, will be contesting for the parliamentary seat for the Ejisu Constituency in the Ashanti Region.
Our outfit understands that the former Ghana FA capo and his team will officially pick their forms, today Tuesday 2nd April, 2024 where he will file on Thursday 4th April, 2024 for the upcoming by-election.
The seat became vacant following the demise of Deputy Finance Minister, John Kumah, who passed away on March 7, 2024. Drawing early interest from prospective contenders eyeing the upcoming by-election, with Mr. Nyantakyi hoping to be in Parliament in 2025.
Among them, former President of the Ghana Football Association, Kwesi Nyantakyi, has emerged as a possible candidate for the vacant seat.
As a native of Kwaso in the Ejisu-Juaben Municipal district from the paternal side, the former Wa All Stars bankroller automatically qualifies to contest the seat.
During an interview in Kumasi at the launch of the New Patriotic Party’s Ashanti Regional Campaign team, Nyantakyi subtly revealed his intentions to participate in the Ejisu by-election once the official timetable is announced.
“The Ejisu by-election will definitely come on, but the timetable has not been published yet so we don’t know those who want to contest. Since I come from there and I have the right to contest, at the right time, we’ll see what will happen.
“But at the moment, we are mourning the demise of a very dear son of the constituency. The Member of Parliament is a big loss to the constituency and let’s see what happens after the one week,” Nyantakyi stated.
Meanwhile, the former FIFA Executive Council member, has called on the rank and file to give the party’s flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia peace of mind in the selection of a running mate.
“I think it is a prerogative of the flagbearer to select the running mate, so let’s leave it to him. At the right time, he’ll do that.”
