Ghana’s Edwin Gadayi secured first place in the men’s 100m final at the Confederation of Africa Athletics Region II Championship hosted at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon.
Edwin Gadayi clocked a time of 10.07 seconds, surpassing competitors in Nigeria’s Israel Oko and Mali’s Sissoko Fode.
However, this time does not yet qualify for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Edwin Gadayi’s compatriot, Sarfo Ansah finished 4th in that same race.
Athletes from across the region, including the host country Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, Benin, Sierra Leone, Liberia, Gabon, Gambia, Burkina Faso, Niger, Senegal, and Côte d’Ivoire, have gathered in Accra to compete in various events. These include sprints, distance races, hurdles, relays, and field events.
Ghana’s team is aiming for Olympic qualification in both relays and individual events, facing tough competition from their West African neighbours.
