The 3rd edition of the Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon being organised by Medivents Consult has been launched successfully, with a call to Ghanaians, the sporting fraternity, local communities, and sports enthusiasts to participate in the highly anticipated event.
The marathon, scheduled for August 3rd, will start from the Accra Sports Stadium and end at the Trust Sports Emporium, with distances of 5KM, 10KM, and 21KM available.
The Accra Inter-City Homowo Marathon aims to promote the Homowo festival, celebrate the cultural heritage of the Ga people, and encourage healthy living through sports.
Speaking at the launch event, the President of the Ghana Olympic Committee, Ben Nunoo Mensah, expressed his gratitude to all stakeholders involved in the organization of the event.
He emphasised the critical role sports play in the development of the country, stating.
“Sports is a vital tool for national development, promoting health, unity, and economic growth. Our athletes need encouragement and support to reach the top, and events like the Homowo Marathon provide a platform for them to showcase their talents,” Mr. Nunoo-Mensah said.
“I urge corporate entities to continue supporting this noble cause, and I call on all Ghanaians, especially the Ga community, to come out in numbers and participate in this exciting event,” the GOC boss stated.
“Let us embrace this event as a celebration of our cultural heritage and a promotion of healthy living. Together, we can make the Homowo Marathon a flagship event in Ghana’s sporting calendar,” he added.
Henri Senyo Penni, General Manager of Medivents Consult, disclosed that “We have outlined suitable measures, including security, nutrition, hydration, and medical support, to ensure a successful and safe event for all participants.”
He added, “We are committed to making this edition of the Homowo Marathon a memorable one, and we urge everyone to come on board and be a part of this exciting event.”
