South Africa’s Thandolwethu Mathiba (pictured) displayed a courageous show but went down by a unanimous decision to India’s world quarter-finalist, Anamika Hooda in the light-flyweight final bout of the Brics Games in Kazan, Russia, on Saturday, June 22.
Flyweight Ntandoyethu Ncube lost in the semis to make it one bronze and a silver for the Mzansi Nation.
“The fight was very tough, I’m very proud of myself, I gave in as much as I received,” Mathiba said after the fight from Kazan.
Team manager Michelle Rossouw said Anamika carried the day because most of her punches landed on target while Mathiba was mostly hitting her opponent’s gloves.
“Mathiba put up a good fight, though. She frustrated the Indian boxer with her jab, gave everything she had,” said Rossouw.
