PHOTOS: Edwin Gadayi is 2024 winner of Ghana’s Fastest Human race

Rapidly rising Edwin Gadayi has emerged the 2024 champion of the novelty Ghana’s Fastest Human competition after topping the grand finale at the University of Ghana Stadium in Accra on Saturday.

Gadayi who recently won gold in the 100 metres of the Confederation of Africa Athletics Region II championship hosted by Ghana at the very same University Stadium at the beginning of the month, romped to the comfortable win to claim his first Ghana’s Fastest Human title after previous heartbreaks.

The man who only returned from the 2024 African Athletics Championship in Douala, Cameroon this week, was also a resounding winner in the semi final heat as he sealed a memorable year in which he is set to also join Ghana’s 4x100m relay team for competition at the impending Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

“I am so excited because for years I have been trying to win this particular competition, but this is the first time winning it. I am so happy, I’m proud,” Gadayi told newsmen whilst still panting for breath at the finish line.

Meanwhile, top women’s sprinter, Mary Boakye cemented her status as number one on the local scene with a faultless run in both the semi final heat and finals to run away with the huge trophy at stake for keeps aside other juicy rewards from the organisers and the GNPC sponsors.

There were also trophies for first place winners in both U-15 and U-18 boys and girls divisions.
