After nearly five years without a world title, the nation will salivate the opportunity to break the drought when Kumasi-born Stanley ‘Ashanti Warrior’ Nyantakyi fights Argentine Sergio ‘El Canalla’ Sosa for the Universal Boxing Organization (UBO) world featherweight title in Wisconsin in the United States of America on December 7.
Nyantakyi, 23, and with only one loss in his record of 11 professional bouts and who will be making his US debut, told the Daily Graphic that he will make it a memorable one for all Ghanaians.
“This is the chance, this is the opportunity, and this world title will be in Ghana by the Grace of God, I promise Ghanaians,” he told this medium.
The knockout specialist who is orthodox and only recently won the UBO Africa featherweight title at the SG Mall in Kumasi after knocking out compatriot Isaac Nettey is expected to beef up his technical team and intensify his training regimen in Accra and Kumasi.
“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and I have to grab it with both hands, I will win the world title for Ghana,” he stated.
His manager, Gordon Frimpong, CEO of Osibor Boxing Promotions and Management says arrangements are being made to provide Nyantakyi with the best training and support ahead of the bout.
“We are getting him a dietician, an extra trainer with his pad work and hitting of mitts and preparing to get some of his fans to the US to support him,” he told the Graphic Sports.
He appealed to Ghanaians to pray for him and ensure he comes home with the world title.
His opponent, Sosa, is a 30-year-old orthodox hard-hitter who has a professional record of 17 bouts including four losses.
He last fought and lost to Kazakh Sultan Zaurbek in Brighton in the United Kingdom.
