Kotoko sign Nigerian winger Wisdom Fernando

Ghanaian giants, Kumasi Asante Kotoko have completed the signing of Nigerian forward Wisdom Fernando on a three-year deal, according to reports.

The former Akwa United player has been brought in to replace Bernard Somuah, who has been farmed out on loan to Spanish side, Celta Fortuna.

Fernando’s registration was finalised on the last day of the transfer window on Sunday, August 25, 2024.

He will join the team in Cape Coast, where the Porcupine Warriors are based for pre-season for the upcoming campaign.

The 22-year-old winger joins Kotoko on a free transfer after his loan spell at Sporting Lagos came to an end after the 2023-24 season, and also, his contract with Akwa expired.

Fernando has seven goals and eight assists in 76 appearances in the Nigerian Professional Football League across seven seasons, playing for Akwa and Sporting.

He won the Nigeria Premier Football League title in the 2020-21 season with Akwa, with his impressive performances playing a crucial role in the triumph.

Fernando becomes the fifth foreign player to sign for the Ghanaian giants this transfer window after Sudanese duo Esmat Abdulhamid, AbdoelRahman Yoouef Yagoub, Congolese defender Samba O’Neil and Guinean goalkeeper Mohamed Camara.
